NAB SHOW 2011

I wanted to take this opportunity to let everyone know about our experience at the NAB show in Las Vegas. My assistants Candy Fay, Tom Szklarski and I were able to go to the biggest industry event with the TV Club student leadership. It was an amazing trip that really made all of us realize just how fortunate we are and how special our program is here at LT.
The students were able to see the big picture, learning about emerging technology, industry trends, and networking with professionals. They attended several keynote addresses and special sessions featuring James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar), David Moritz (editor of many Wes Anderson films), Louise Innes (editor of True Blood), Vince Pace (cinematographer on many James Cameron films). They had opportunities to try out equipment and technology hands-on and attended demonstrations of equipment and technology.
One thing we experienced throughout our trip was positive feedback from people we met. Whether it was other professionals attending the convention, exhibitors at booths, or representatives from companies, we were bombarded by their amazement at our students. We frequently were told by these professionals things like:
"You're at NAB and you're in high school? You guys are going to do great in this business!"
"Wow! You guys are SO lucky to be here as high school students - MY school never did anything cool like that!"
I was also very proud of the numerous occasions when these professionals congratulated me on having the opportunity to bring my students to NAB and praised how mature and informed the kids were.
None of this trip would have been possible without the support of our school board, administration, faculty, and community. The students that attended this event learned so much and bonded as leaders of the TV Club. This experience has truly changed all of us and I hope to make it a tradition in the years to come.
Thank you,
Bill
